Tell us about Yourself and Your music:
"Thinking Outside The Box" is a conceptual project. Mic Blaque bases his artistry as an artist, song writer, and producer, by using his art to help listeners understand that the status quo is not always the norm. He brings you into a world where most artists wouldn’t dare. The world of expression he brings has no boundaries, where being an individual would not be placed as an outcast for its pure honesty. Straight out of Brooklyn (Brownsville), New York, Mic Blaque is an artist that uses his art as an emcee to build awareness upon the issues that plague his environment. While studying the cultivating sounds of Bob Marley and Curtis Mayfield and also the creative word play of a young Nas and AZ, often Mic Blaque would get compared to a young Ice Cube. With soulful melodies and a poetically driven word play, he created his own sound which he calls “Rhythm and Lyrics”. With this phenomenal sound, Mic managed to capture people attention with his First project “Thinking Outside The Box Vol. 1”, leaving listeners in a state of amazement. Songs like “Hip Hop Is a Slave” and “Possibility feat B. Favors” have left people wanting more with high expectations for his second project “Thinking Outside The Box Vol. 2 feat KHz”. Both projects have helped Mic Blaque develop a strong supportive following. Mic Blaque is not only known for his outstanding talent, he is also known for his community work. He contributed to a non-profit organization called "Sankofa Empowerment" which is an organization which provides individuals with culturally relevant and socially practical educational experiences that empower them to assume leadership roles to address issues prevalent in urban communities. Mic assisted teaching a music class that was based around helping the youth to develop skills to use there talents to promote change. Through "Sankofa Empowerment", Mic Blaque has been working with Nate Parker from the movie “Great Debaters” on a project to help raise money for an African centered community based Saturday school. Plus he has shared the stage with Abiodun Oyewole of the legendary "Last Poets". For most it is just entertainment, but for Mic Blaque it is more. He doesn’t strive to be number one, he strives to reach people in hopes that his music can help them in anyway it can. “Entertainment is just one aspect of our music, I think we forgot about the other parts” said Blaque. “Hiphop is the reflection of the people, so if it’s dead what does that say for us?”. Mic Blaque is on the rise, join him on his journey.
